Gautam Gambhir & Salary Talks in Final Over: BCCI Delays Gambhir’s Head Coach Appointment
Gambhir and the BCCI are in the “final stages of salary negotiations.” Once his remuneration is finalized, the BCCI will announce him as India’s head coach.

The iconic former left-hander, Gautam Gambhir, was recently spotted filming a poignant farewell video for the Kolkata Knight Riders at the historic Eden Gardens. This emotional gesture hints at the premature conclusion of his second innings with the franchise, where he played a pivotal role in steering them to IPL glory after a decade-long wait. As he bids adieu to KKR, Gambhir’s legacy as a cornerstone of their success remains etched in the hearts of fans and the annals of cricket history.
The delay in Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as India’s new head coach hinges on ongoing salary negotiations. According to The Indian Express, Gambhir and the BCCI are in the “final stages of salary negotiations.” Once his remuneration is settled, the BCCI will make the official announcement.
The BCCI remains flexible regarding the head coach’s salary for the Indian men’s cricket team, noting in their advertisement for applicants that the salary is “negotiable and will be commensurate with experience.” Gambhir is anticipated to earn a higher salary than his predecessor, Rahul Dravid, who received around ₹12 crore annually.
This would be Gambhir’s first national-level coaching assignment. Though he has never been a head coach, his IPL experience is significant. Gambhir previously mentored the Lucknow Super Giants for a couple of seasons before joining the Kolkata Knight Riders last year, where he played a crucial role in leading them to an IPL championship.
