Punjab Kings, led by Shikhar Dhawan, will start their Indian Premier League 2024 journey against Delhi Capitals at a brand-new stadium in Mullanpur on March 23. They’ve chosen Jitesh Sharma as their new vice-captain for this season.
Before the Indian Premier League 2024 starts, the Punjab Kings revealed their new vice-captain during the captain’s photo session. They chose the promising young Indian player Jitesh Sharma to be Shikhar Dhawan’s deputy for the season. This announcement came on Thursday, March 21.
IPL’s X post showed the nine captains, and it mentioned that Punjab Kings’ vice-captain, Jitesh Sharma, was there representing the team.

Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh, who is 30 years old, became a part of the Punjab Kings during the IPL 2022 mega auction. He soon became the main wicketkeeper for the team. Jitesh Sharma had a great season in the IPL in 2023. He scored 309 runs in 14 innings with a fantastic strike rate of 156.06.
Jitesh got his first chance to play for the senior men’s team in the Asian Games 2023, held in Hangzhou. He also played in India’s recent T20 matches against Afghanistan. Now, he’s hoping to make it to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 team. His performance in the upcoming 17th IPL will play a big role in deciding that.
Sam Curran came to PBKS in 2023 for a huge amount, setting a record of INR 18.50 crore at that time. He led the team in three matches last season when Shikhar Dhawan wasn’t available. Shikhar, who is 38 years old, might retire as captain in the next season or two. Jitesh being promoted to the vice-captain role suggests that the team sees him as an important part of their plans.
