The ‘Surya Tilak’ project aims to shine natural sunlight on the forehead of the idol of Lord Ram Lalla exactly at 12 pm every Shri Ram Navami.

This year, during the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, they introduced a special scientific system. Its purpose is to place a ‘Surya Tilak’ on the idol of Ram Lalla every Ram Navami, starting from this year.

During each Ram Navami celebration, the temple will use a complex system of lenses and mirrors. This system will focus sunlight onto the forehead of the idol of Ram Lalla, creating the sacred ‘Surya Tilak’ as a symbol of respect and joy.

The ‘Surya Tilak’ project plans to shine sunlight on the forehead of Lord Ram Lalla’s idol exactly at 12 pm on every Ram Navami. This special moment might last for three to four minutes, possibly even up to six minutes.

Crafted by Optica in partnership with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics in Bangalore, the project uses a special design with precise lenses and mirrors. These components capture sunlight and turn it into a divine symbol during this important event.

At the core of the project is an advanced lunar calendar gear mechanism. This mechanism is made to align with Ram Navami Day each year, blending traditional beliefs with modern technology seamlessly.

The optical path, piping, and tip-tilt stages are cleverly designed to work without springs. This means they’ll last a long time and won’t need much maintenance, ensuring the divine radiance continues for generations.

The system can last for 100 years using only “Pancha Dathu” in its construction and installation. Its design allows for easy replacement of parts, ensuring it can keep running smoothly and reverently.

Ram Navami will be celebrated on 17 April 2024

Rama Navami is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Rama, who is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism and is considered the seventh avatar of Vishnu. He is admired for his qualities of righteousness, good conduct, and virtue, making him an ideal king and human. The festival occurs on the ninth day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the lunar month of Chaitra, which usually falls in March or April according to the Hindu calendar. Rama Navami is also part of the Chaitra Navaratri festival celebrated in spring. In India, Rama Navami is a holiday for government employees.
