The 26th President of the US, named “Theodore Tedd’s Roosevelt,” went hunting in 1902; he could not find a bear, so his assistant captured a bear so he could shoot, but he refused it. The story became a headline, and then one famous cartoonist, Berryman, made a cartoon about the story.
A candy shop owner made a stuffed toy bear by looking at a cartoon by Berryman and renaming it “Teddy’s Bear” to pay tribute to President Tedd.
